STARTING IN THE VINEYARD

The 2022 growing season was a challenging vintage defined by a severe Labor Day heatwave. While a cool, temperate summer led to steady ripening, the heat compressed the harvest. Our Mt Veeder property does a fantastic job at showcasing its pursuit of greatness. The best wines from this vintage show good structure and fresh acidity. This "tale of two harvests" required exceptional vineyard management, but the resulting wines often possess a great sense of purity and balance despite the hurdles.

For our Herrera wines, the vineyards are the heart of our craft. Nestled on Mt. Veeder, Lynne’s vineyard thrives at high elevation, benefiting from exceptional sun exposure and a unique soil composition. These ideal conditions give rise to a Cabernet Sauvignon rich in intense dark fruit flavors, vibrant acidity, and robust tannins, with exceptional aging potential. Aged for 28 months in 100% new French oak and further refined through extended bottle aging, the wine is complex and structured, showcasing a distinct mountain character that is both lush and harmonious.

This collector's Cabernet is striking in appearance, boasting a dense purple hue. It opens with classic Cabernet aromas, black forest, pinecone, vanilla, espresso, wet stone, graphite, and tobacco leaf. There is nothing shy about this wine. Opulent and full bodied, it offers great structure, bright acidity and bold flavors of dark fruits, herbs, spices, cassis, chocolate & espresso. The muscular tannins and long finish showcase the exceptional quality of this vintage. A true Cabernet enthusiast's dream, as much as crafting wines of this caliber is ours.
