The 2022 growing season was marked by a dry winter and a mostly mild summer. Early bud break was followed by some spring rain and frost, which resulted in lower yields but concentrated flavors. The region's signature fog helped moderate temperatures, allowing the grapes to ripen gradually and develop good acidity. A September heatwave accelerated the harvest, but winemakers were generally pleased with the resulting high-quality fruit. Two clones of Pinot were used--the Swan & Calera--are notorious for small, tight clusters, and produce very low yields. The Swan brings finesse and freshness, while the Calera brings structure and power. The combination of these two make an incredible pair.
