The “Mama Ester” Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon, named for Rolando’s abuela, Mama Ester, his mother’s mother. She exuded a strength and wisdom that was compelled by her warmth and compassion and was a pivotal figure in his childhood. She was his rock, always guiding him with her sage advice, and Rolando is very honored to release the 5th vintage in her name.

 
VINEYARD

The 2022 Coombsville growing season was a challenging vintage defined by a severe Labor Day heatwave. While a cool, temperate summer led to steady ripening, the heat compressed the harvest, but Coombsville's cooler climate helped mitigate the effects. The best wines from this vintage show good structure and fresh acidity. This "tale of two harvests" required exceptional vineyard management, but the resulting wines often possess a great sense of purity and balance despite the hurdles.

CELLAR

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon spent 5 to 7 days in a cold soak to intensify the mountain fruit characteristics and then was fermented for 10 days in stainless steel tanks. Aged in 70% new French oak for 22 months, then moved back into the cellar for bottling. This extremely age-worthy “Mama Ester” will only get better within your cellar for 20+ years.

GLASS
Look for the signature Mi Sueño dark ruby in the glass. The aromatic profile immediately draws you in with layers of vibrant red currant, black cherry, and fig. Rich secondary notes of toasted French oak, vanilla, and cedar mingle with intriguing savory elements of dried pine and fine leather. This is a full-bodied, complex "gentle giant" on the palate, bursting with spicy intensity yet perfectly framed by polished, silky tannins. The wine culminates in a long, resilient finish that confirms its power and grace.
