Vineyard Notes
The beginning of the 2019 growing season was defined by copious rainfall and late soil moisture. The long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season, not without its moments of unpredictability, helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit with abundant hang time teasing out great color, structure and soft tannins. All in all, exceptional fruit with bright acidity and ample texture promises an amazing vintage.
Production Notes
Aged for 23 months in 60% new French oak to soften the tannins, create complexity, and add depth to the wine’s generous body. The barrels also impart intriguing vanilla and spice attributes to complement the intense dark fruit characteristics.
Tasting Notes
The intense aromas burst forth with olives, sea salt, bacon, lavender, maple, blackberries, blueberries, black pepper, grilled marshmallow, and white chocolate. The mouthwatering entry provides dark ripe strawberry, blackberry, vanilla bean, and almond. The masculine tannins lead into a long finish that makes you think about another sip.
Food Pairing Notes
While it could go well with roasted leg of lamb or spareribs, the ultimate pairing is Spicy Red Pork Pozole.
