Vineyard Notes
Heralded as a near perfect growing season, 2016 started early and saw ideal weather conditions throughout. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August, the grapes were allowed an extended hang time, allowing the vineyards to progress to perfect ripeness and overall high quality.
Production Notes
This wine is aged for 21 months in 65% new French oak then left patiently waiting in the bottle for over a year before its release which makes this wine immediately enjoyable, with the rounded tannins and rich mouthfeel that our wines have become synonymous for.
Tasting Notes
The deep, dark garnet hue of this wine reveals the beauty and power to follow. Enticing dark plum, boysenberry, cinnamon, maple syrup, and the fragrance of clean, wet earth all beckon from the glass. Showing a beautiful harmony on the palate, notes of ripe berry and cherry fruit are accented by hints of black pepper and dark chocolate. Firmly structured yet silky tannins are incredibly well-integrated, and the finish is long, luscious, and mouth-watering.
Food Pairing Notes
Rich and hearty Braised Short Ribs with sweet potato gratin would compliment the structure of this wine nicely, as would juicy Grilled Lamb Loin served with black olive tapanade. If cheese is your desire, try with the Fiscalini Cheese Company’s San Joaquin Gold, a semi-hard, mild and nutty cow’s milk cheese.
