Vineyard Notes
2014 was the third consecutive great vintage in the Napa Valley with excellent fruit harvest and quality. A very dry and warm spring kicked off bud-break earlier than normal. Rainfall in Napa Valley was half of the normal volume we usually see, leading to early veraison and subsequent harvest. The dry conditions gave us slightly reduced yields of extra concentrated grapes of exceptional quality.
Production Notes
Rolando treats this wine just like Cabernet in the cellar. As much tannin and structure as possible is extracted before the wine is aged for 20 months to refine the texture and balance the body.
Tasting Notes
This tempranillo leads with a seductive nose of dark cocoa, black cherry, and vanilla. On the palate the sensation is of creamy cassis and fig, coupled with bright acidity. Nuances of cinnamon and black pepper introduce themselves on the warm finish and leave a rich impression that keeps you coming back for another sip.
Food Pairing Notes
This is a wine worthy of a fiesta! Cook up a batch of beef tamales and fire up the grill for marinated lamb and sausage-and-rice stuffed peppers.
